Thalang is the northern district (amphoe) of Phuket: 6 tambons stretching from the airport and the Mai Khao and Nai Yang beaches to Bang Tao, Layan and Surin on the west coast and the marina at Ao Po on the east coast.

The official name of the district is Choeng Thale tambon, Thalang district. Within it are several places that people search for separately: Bang Tao Beach and the Laguna resort complex in the middle, quiet Layan to the north and Surin to the south, on the border with Kamala.
Laguna is a complex of resorts and branded residences by Banyan Group. Near Bang Tao are the shopping streets Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket. The airport is about 20 km and 23 minutes away, and Phuket Town is 21 km away.
Layan is the northern part of the tambon, 14 km and about 18 minutes from the airport. Layan Verde and AYANA Heights are being built here, on a hillside with sea views.
Surin is a beach between Bang Tao and Kamala, 23 km from the airport. The Biancana project is located here.
The median condo price in Choeng Thale is around 156,000-165,000 baht per m², according to Thaiger and Bamboo Routes: the most expensive condos on the island.
From May to October the south-west monsoon reaches the west coast, bringing waves and rip currents. Swimming is not allowed when the red flag is up.

Officially, the area is Sakhu subdistrict (tambon) in Thalang district (amphoe). Nai Yang Beach sits right next to the airport runway, and Nai Thon lies further south.
